USCIS note: Answers will vary. [District of Columbia residents and residents of U.S. territories should answer that D.C. (or the territory where the applicant lives) has no U.S. Senators.]

Our explanation

Every state has two U.S. Senators. They work in Congress and represent all the people of the state. Washington, D.C., and U.S. territories have no U.S. Senators. If you live there, give that as your answer.

Remember it

Two senators per state, six-year terms. Learn one name at senate.gov and check it before your interview.
