2025 test · Question 62 of 128
What is the capital of your state?
Depends on where you live
The answer is different for each state, for D.C., and for each U.S. territory. Look up the answer for the place where you live.
USCIS note: Answers will vary. [District of Columbia residents should answer that D.C. is not a state and does not have a capital. Residents of U.S. territories should name the capital of the territory.]
Our explanation
A capital is the city where a state’s government is based. Each state has its own capital. D.C. residents should say D.C. is not a state and does not have a capital. Territory residents name their territory’s capital.
Remember it
Don’t guess the biggest city: New York’s capital is Albany, not New York City.
