2025 test · Question 15 of 128
There are three branches of government. Why?
Answers from the USCIS list
Give one of these answers.
- So one part does not become too powerful
- Checks and balances
- Separation of powers
Our explanation
The Founders feared one person or group could get too much power. So they separated power into three branches. This is called separation of powers. Each branch can check, or limit, the others.
Remember it
3 branches share power, so no 1 part becomes too powerful.
