2025 test · Question 37 of 128
The President of the United States can serve only two terms. Why?
Answers from the USCIS list
Give one of these answers. Words in light (parentheses) are optional.
- optional: (Because of) the 22nd Amendment
- To keep the president from becoming too powerful
Our explanation
Franklin Roosevelt was elected President four times. In 1951, the 22nd Amendment (a change to the Constitution) was added. It says a person can be elected President only two times. This keeps a President from becoming too powerful.
Remember it
Twenty-TWO-nd Amendment = TWO terms.
